We humans seem to like the easiest way!
Choice, learn to eat right, pick the right foods, possibly spend more money on food since good food isn't subsidized or...

take a pill.

There's less money to be made to learn about proper nutrition because the demand isn't there.

How do we get the demand to increase?

Hopefully the awareness keeps growing!

Hi Judy,

You bring up a really good point that all exercise does not have to be uncomfortable and punishing - it simply depends on your goals. You've clearly got a routine that works well for you and I love the comments you made about how it makes you feel emotionally and physically. The connection between the physical and the emotional/spiritual is exactly what I'm talking about - it's such a powerful motivator. As for the intensity question, in order to maintain physical fitness we can exercise regularly at a moderate pace (not so punishing). To increase physical fitness we have to push past our current levels in order to stimulate positive adaptation and improvement in the system (a strategic level of "punishment"). What you want from your exercise routine will determine what intensity you should be working in. At the end of the day, it's more important that we move in some way, shape, or form than sit still. Thanks for sharing your insights Judy!

I walk 3 miles a day and do tai chi at least 3x a week. I do it because I love it. Both have a meditative component and give me endorphins. Also my body craves exercise - when traveling I can't get enough. I love the tired physically feeling I get after exercise too. I never dread exercising. My heart lifts in the morning anticipating going out to walk and do tai chi. Perhaps that is different than the punishing hard exercise you speak of?

There's nothing like how you feel after moving your body - physically as well as psychologically. Keep on moving and Hit the Decks are on their way!

hi Jenny! I am definitely a gentle "keep up the good work! you're going to feel great and look HOT!" My husband, however, forgets this. And when the alarm goes off at 5AM and I don't want to get up and work out, his instinct is to tell me, "well then don't complain about being fat." Oh, great. Roll over. Hit the snooze. And sleep it off.

I need someone to feed off or challenge I am competitive by nature.
My commitment would be great but time management gets in the way
My boys are in sports so when they are home its a mix of "chillin" or going out to shoot hoops
Cry and dream of me being fit again!!

Jenny! I was thinking about you and here I am, responding to your inspiring blog. And I realize I am sitting on the couch sucking coffee and I just ate a piece of leftover soda bread from St. Pat's and I feel like taking a nap. But now I won't. I'm going to stop flattening my butt and crank some songs and move by bod. Thanks!! Good to 'talk' to you!
